Can I still have Inman Aligner braces with my tongue condition?

January 8th, 2013
Q.

I have a tongue thrusting issue, which have caused problems with my front teeth, which now go forward, because of the many years with my condition. Would you be able to tell me whether the inman aligner would be a good choice for me in looking for a brace? Also, what can I do about the continued tongue thrusting and what can I do to stop my teeth from moving back to the way they were before, if my tongue thrusting is not treated properly I would really like a straight ‘flat’ smile for once in my life. Thank you for your help doctor

How can I be sure that my braces are genuine?

October 22nd, 2012
Q.

Hi Dr Tif,

I’m writing from Melbourne Australia and I’ve had my ‘Inman aligner’ for about 6 weeks now. But ever since my dentist sent me an hours’ drive away to the lab to get my Inman aligner ‘shaved’ and tightened using pliers, I have had my doubts on whether or not I have been given a genuine Inman aligner product.

Comparing it to the images online, it looks nothing like them, it does not have any titanium coils and it has no laser etched Inman aligner name on it and I wasn’t given any Inman aligner box or brochure pack when I first got it.

I hope you can clear my doubts for me and advise me on what I should do.

Thank you kindly.

How can I correct my overjet?

October 12th, 2012
Q.

I have a large overjet of 6 teeth. My adult teeth have grown down twisted and sitting out. about 20 years ago I got veneers fitted which made my teeth look straight.  I have since had them replaced 3 times and am happy with the results, but I would like my overjet sorted I have been reading lots about Inman aligner and it seems the best option for me, with the length of time it takes for correction and the fact that it is removable for special occasions. is this possible with veneers and is it large enough to pull back 6 teeth.

Is the Inman Aligner quicker than other braces?

October 1st, 2012
Q.

My lower teeth have started to cross and I really badly want them straightening. I have been to the dentists and had an examination whereby he simply said “braces.” now I’m not being funny but I don’t want them! I have looked a lot at the Inman aligner which I like the look of. My first question would be; is it actually quicker than a traditional brace? If so, how much quicker generally speaking? The problem is that when I presented my dentist with the idea of having an Inman he scoffed and said that its not proper treatment!!! It goes without saying that he doesn’t provide it but there are local dentists that I know that do. Could you please advise me on crooked teeth and the Inman aligner and any possible reason why he would make comments like that saying they’re not proper treatment methods? Thank you

How long will my Inman Aligners take to work?

September 25th, 2012
Q.

Hi there.

I have had my aligner fitted for 5 weeks now and my teeth are not moving much, the dentist is surprised by how little movement as there is plenty of room for them to move.

Predominently one of my front teeth and the one next to it, forgive lack of technical terms.

My question is, how long should you expect the longest period? You see lots of notes about “straighten in 5 – 12 weeks”, but i’m sure this will take longer, if it works at all.

Have there been cases where it did not work?
What are the steps taken in this case?

My dentist said give it another 2 weeks and he may tighten the springs and send photos for advise.  I just need to know it will work and I will have the patience to hang on, I am wearing it at least 20 hours a day, sometimes even more.

Thanks you.

Is a root filling safe to have with the Inman Aligner?

July 16th, 2012
Q.

Hi! I am soon to start my treatment with Inman aligner but I am a bit concerned about one of my front upper teeth. The two front upper teeth are tilted inwards and are also a bit rotated against eachother. After an accident twenty years ago one of them had to be treated with rootfilling. Is it really safe with IA for my tooth? It has always been more tender and also a bit thinner since the treatment. I had it bleached from within seven years ago and the result is still ok. There are also some fillings done to my front teeth, will this be of any concern? I am looking forward to hearing your advice and I would like to thank you in advance for any advice or help you can suggest to me. Thank you and kind regards

What is wrong with my Inman Aligner?

July 16th, 2012
Q.

Hello

I had an Inman aligner last year, I have to wear a retainer all day every day which keeps snapping, plus I don’t think my teeth are straight enough. My teeth still feel loose and I had the inman off in May 2012 – is all this normal as I wish I had just left my teeth the way they where? I now have 2 gaps I never had before I had the inman done and I now hate my teeth more that when I got them done. My teeth did not come out as the moulds they gave me as they where perfect with out gaps. Any advice that you could give me would be fantastic as I can not bare this for much longer, thank you in advance.

Will the Inman aligner really work for my relapsed teeth?

July 16th, 2012
Q.

Hi Mr. Inman,

I am a relapse case. Got my braces off at age 23 and am 32 now. To be honest, my orthodontist didn’t do a great job and my lateral incisors were never perfect. They are rotated where the outer edge of the incisors adjacent to my canines are more labial if that makes any sense. Basically, they are faced forward like my front teeth rather than following the arch that we strive to achieve. It’s not bad as 2 orthos have recently told me that my teeth are pretty good but I’m vain. I have the standard Inman Aligner and I’m wondering if they really will work to move my incisors the last 10% to give me the arch I desire. If they aren’t, I’d rather not spend 6-16 weeks spitting on people and opt out for lingual braces. I’m also wondering if I need my teeth filed more to create space for the rotation. I’m not sure my dentist that I bought them from has enough experience to really know if they will work or not.

Thanks a lot!

Can teeth feel loose while wearing the Inman aligner?

June 6th, 2012
Q.

Hello Dr Qureshi,

I have just been fitted with the Inman aligner four days ago and have now heard that after two weeks or so, teeth can feel “loose”. I have rather a massive phobia of this and was wondering if you could please clarify what happens in an average treatment. Is it true that teeth become loose? Is it noticibly so, or is the treatment so gradual that you don’t really notice anything beyond the sensation of tenderness that I feel already from the pressure of wearing the aligner? And how long do the teeth take to set securely in their new position? I am so ridiculously scared of developing wobbly teeth!! I thought it best to ask you as you are the UK pioneer of this treatment and I have read a lot of your posts on the subject. I feel disinclined to ask my own dentist as she told me I must wear it at all times except eating and cleaning, and you expressly disagree with this saying 20 hours is the maximum per day and you must take a break.

I would be very grateful for your advice as I am scaring myself something silly worrying about the repercussions of using this treatment!

Thank you in advance for your time.

I currently have an Inman aligner and have an overbite which is causing me problems, what are my options?

May 15th, 2012
Q.

I’m really near to the end of my treatment to correct my two crowded overlapping top front teeth. The Inman aligner has worked brilliantly and far quicker than I could have hoped for.
However, I have an overbite, but before treatment my front top and bottom teeth were able to touch. Now there is a gap to the extent that I cannot use my front teeth to cut thin pieces of food. In fact despite moving my jaw in various directions it seems that the only teeth which touch are the molars, with the premolars and canines to a lesser extent. What are my options to fix this?
