Hello Doctor,
I would love to get the inman aligner as my problems mainly affect the front of my mouth, with two buck teeth right there for everyone to see! But i also have an implant just to the side of one of my front teeth. It happen due to an accident where I fell and hit the tooth, which then became dead, and so was nothing to do with poor oral care and decay. I have had the implant for about 4 months now, after several months of settling time and it feels perfect, no problems what so ever. My question is (i’ll get there in the end!) can I have the inman aligner even though i have an implant at the front of my mouth?
I really appreciate any help you can give and thanks for your time
I am not a dentist but I have been a technician for 34 years, also I have so much experience with Inman Aligners I feel comfortable answering your question. The Inman Aligner is great for retracting flared or buck teeth but there must be room between your upper and lower teeth to allow them to retract or be pulled in. As for the implant (print this and take it to your dentist when you are ready) you want to avoid any pressure or orthodontic force on it. Since all we need is a pulling force we can design the appliance to pull only on the 2 front teeth and support the implant from the lingual with a passive acrylic plate. Your dentist might need to create some space by sledarizing your front teeth but this is common and very safe.
I hope this helps,
Don
